Hi, I’m Kira DeDecker (“key-ra dee-decker”) and I’m a pet photographer serving Arizona’s greater Phoenix Metro area. Welcome to my blog! This is where I share not only my most recent work but also my life with you. Client sneak peeks, Facebook recaps, announcements, updates, awesome new offerings and the occasional (okay, frequent) story about my crazy but amazing life with my three dogs – Sox, Bixby and Waffles.

Pull up a chair and make sure it’s nice and comfy because you will want to stay awhile. It’s great to have you here!

A Lazy Day Edit

It’s February, which means I’m back to blogging. I’m still getting into the swing of things around here so today’s video of a lazy* edit seemed appropriate. In total, an edit like this takes about 3 minutes (this particular one took 2 minutes and 20 seconds) from start to finish.

How am I able to edit so quickly? Well I have a few things working in my favor…

  • Good base photo. I try to nail it in camera as much as possible so I don’t have to do an unnecessary “fixing”.
  • Keyboard short cuts for Photoshop. Seriously, it may seem stupid at first but once you learn and start using them you will begin to see a big difference in how much time you spend in PS.
  • Photoshop actions. I know a lot of photogs snub their noses at the idea of using actions in Photoshop, but I don’t know how I live without them! Anything that takes more than 2 steps, I make into an action.

Now while I would love to go over a little bit more about my post processing, I’m still sore and bruised from my session with 7 dogs last weekend and Waffles has a case of the barfies, so I’m going log off and go cuddle on the couch with my big boy.

*Not really lazy, just incredibly simple and easy

LOVE your helpful editing tips – thank you SO much for sharing!! I was curious about how you exactly did the Glossy Eyes action/effect….I got as much as I could from the video but was still wondering how you do that magic. And yes, I have PS and Lightroom 😉 thanks in advance!!
