Hi, I’m Kira DeDecker (“key-ra dee-decker”) and I’m a pet photographer serving Arizona’s greater Phoenix Metro area. Welcome to my blog! This is where I share not only my most recent work but also my life with you. Client sneak peeks, Facebook recaps, announcements, updates, awesome new offerings and the occasional (okay, frequent) story about my crazy but amazing life with my three dogs – Sox, Bixby and Waffles.
Pull up a chair and make sure it’s nice and comfy because you will want to stay awhile. It’s great to have you here!
I know that fact all too well.
I was my grandfathers primary caregiver when he was in hospice and shortly after I got engaged he passed away. I spend my first few months as a newly wed in a mix of pure joy and grief. In fact, one of the most vivid memories I have is standing in my new kitchen, making a sandwich, when I suddenly remember something about him and the next thing I know I am bawling in the corner. It took a year but that sadness and despair turns into some else, it becomes bittersweet and I could remember all the good things without feeling overwhelming pain.
Recently, I lost my dog, Peetie. It was a very unexpected and unfair loss. For a long time, I didn’t think I would be able to accept another dog in my life but like most things the unexpected happened and I met Waffles. I can’t help but think that she gave Waffles her seal of approval for me.
A few days ago, Serena wrote a beautiful post on Pretty Fluffy. I hope you all take a moment to read it, feel it, and embrace it.
Thank you Serena, it was an honor to be mentioned in your post. I am thinking of you in these times.

Hi Kira, It was so lovely to read your post this morning. I’m so sorry for the loss of your grandfather and Peetie. As I mentioned in my article, it was your words on this very website that inspired me to spend more time with those I do have in my life and for that I’m so thankful. They really are my go to words to make me appreciate and embrace life a bit more.
I hope the days of good memories are starting to outnumber the painful ones and wish you and Waffles much happiness.
And I can’t comment without saying how much I love the name Waffles – it makes me smile just saying it! xxx
