This is a shot of Radar, a 16+ old rat terrier mix from Phoenix. Radar totally kicked my butt during that shoot. I walked in thinking I was going to have a laid paid easy session but he showed me that he still had plenty of energy to give. I will never underestimate an “old” dog again.
Here is a shot of Radar’s collar done two ways. The top image is done with my typical edits for when I’m working with color. The bottom image is converted to black and white. I like the top color edit because the colors are fresh and it adds youth to the image but the bottom black and white image is timeless and has more emotional impact.
Kira DeDecker is an on-location lifestyle pet photographer specializing in one-of-a-kind fine art and modern portraits. She works exclusively with dogs, cats and all other four legged creatures to create vibrant, quirky and soulful works of art.She also photographs needy animals pro-bono for non-profit animal organizations (like Cavalier Rescue USA).
