Hi, I’m Kira DeDecker (“key-ra dee-decker”) and I’m a pet photographer serving Arizona’s greater Phoenix Metro area. Welcome to my blog! This is where I share not only my most recent work but also my life with you. Client sneak peeks, Facebook recaps, announcements, updates, awesome new offerings and the occasional (okay, frequent) story about my crazy but amazing life with my three dogs – Sox, Bixby and Waffles.
Pull up a chair and make sure it’s nice and comfy because you will want to stay awhile. It’s great to have you here!
It’s been one year since Peetie passed away from complications from gallstones.
I first met Miss Peet three years ago. I was suffering two major losses in my life, needless to say I wasn’t even thinking about adopting a dog. But when my husband, Tim, ran into a local rescue group that had a bunch of Pomeranians, he dragged me over ‘just to look’. In a pile of scruffy Poms, there was one balding red one that was standing up and jumping up excitedly at us. Tim picked her up and before I knew it we were adopting the scruffy little girl.
Peetie, we discovered was turned over with a bunch of other Pomeranians when their breeder fell ill and turned them into Mixed Up Mutts. For the first six years of her life, she lived in a crammed room, never seeing the outside world, not even to feel the grass beneath her feet. Her owner never bothered with basic health or dental care. Peetie was a sight for sore eyes, many potential adopters looked her over for younger dogs with more fur and teeth. Those others had no idea what a beautiful soul Peetie was.
It didn’t take long before she made herself at home, winning her way into our hearts – a place she will forever have. It’s difficult to express what her years with us were like. Things that came naturally to other dogs were foreign and fearful for her, when she did the simplest thing – like walk on grass for the first time or play with ribbon – we cheered! She would always greet us with such an intense love and joy and was always by our side. You never felt unloved when she was around.
Overtime, we adopted two dog siblings. First was Sox, a very young rambuscus dog that ruled the house, except when it came to Peetie. He was always gentle and giving with her. And then there was Bixby, who adored Peet. She was the only dog that Peetie would nap with.
I will forever be grateful of every single photo I have of Peetie. PLEASE take photos and videos of your pets. There is no such thing as too many photos so document your love together whenever you have the chance. And if you’re unable to take your own photos, hire someone. Those memories are so important. Having those photos won’t make the loss any easier… but in time they will help you remember the little things and hopefully heal.

Beautiful, beautiful post Kira. Peetie's sweet face just melts my heart. Your words are so wise. Our dogs are with us and part of the family for such a short time, it means so much to have photos to remember them by. xx
