A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing my first ever horses and just anyone’s horses but from one of my favorite clients. I first meet Deidra one year ago when I photographed her dog, Kira so when she asked me to photograph her and her mom’s horses I jumped at the chance.
I have a confession to make: I didn’t grow up wanting a pony. My older sister LOVED horses but I was much more into dinosaurs and Godzilla when I was little girl (so much so, that when, I was suppose to draw a picture of something that made us happy in church, I drew Godzilla destroying a town). It didn’t help that when I did meet my first horse when I was around 6, I was sneezed on and I ran home crying (it was pretty traumatic to be covered in horse snot).
But within minutes of meeting Amber and Harleigh, I finally understood the horse love. Watching Deidra and her mom, Kristi interact with these two beautiful creatures was amazing.
It also probably helped my new found horse love that I didn’t get sneezed on that day.
Kira DeDecker is an on-location lifestyle pet photographer specializing in one-of-a-kind fine art and modern portraits. She works exclusively with dogs, cats and all other four legged creatures to create vibrant, quirky and soulful works of art.She also photographs needy animals pro-bono for non-profit animal organizations (like Cavalier Rescue USA).
